Black Designers at Microsoft

community
branding
leadership

The Black Designers at Microsoft is an intentional community to help influence inclusion within Design at Microsoft by providing catalysts to personal and professional growth for hired and potential black designers. This group was co-founded in 2019 by Terell Cobb, Lex Barbosa, Cherian Porter, and myself.

Since 2021, every February we’ve hosted an annual speaker series highlighting black designers across many fields (content, user experience, UX engineering, producing etc.), many levels of seniority, and across the globe (Kenya, the UK, the US, Nigeria etc.)

  • Put together a Speaker series in February that highlighted 9 Black designers (product designers, design leads, researchers, UX engineers, motion designers) across Microsoft in celebration of Black history month, as part of my contributions to the Black Designers at Microsoft ERG. The series drew in upwards of 800 attendees (from various disciplines across the company) throughout the month and sparked valuable conversations amongst speakers and attendees. We were also able to work with the C+AI Narratives team to produce highlight videos and with Design Recruiting to host a networking event to introduce external designers (black and otherwise) to design at Microsoft.

I have continued co-leading the Black Designers at Microsoft (BDAM) group and have seen our community continue to grow.

I created a logomark and defined a creative direction to represent our group within the Microsoft community.
